Art Speaks
Artists are powerful changemakers.
As kids of the 80s, some of us at Earthtopia remember the creative community as a bright spot during the Reagan years.
In response to the famine in Ethiopia, dozens of the decade’s biggest stars collaborated to record the singles, “Do they Know It’s Christmas?” and “We Are the World.”
Looking back, the songs may be a little cheesy –– cut ‘em some slack! It was the 80s –– but the records topped charts for weeks, raising millions in humanitarian aid within minutes of each record’s release.
The impact grew as thirty percent of the global population tuned in to watch a line-up of over seventy-five acts perform at LiveAid. The following year, FarmAid raised $25 million for America’s struggling family farmers.
Inspired by the ideals and legacy of the creators who came together to address the last generation’s crises, Earthtopia’s mission is to harness the power of the art community to help stop the twenty-first century’s most pressing humanitarian disaster: climate change.
